Mentoring: Experience Meets Excellence (Up to 1.8 CEUs/15 SEMIs)
Beginning in the 2008-2009 school year, each beginning teacher in the state of Mississippi was assigned a mentor who has completed the Professional Development for Mentors training that was developed by the Mississippi Teacher Center. Hundreds of mentors have been successfully trained and reality is setting in. This session offers an overview that will address questions now being asked as the program moves ahead, including characteristics, roles, and responsibilities of good mentors. Instructional strategies needed to best utilize the mentor-protégé relationship between teachers to develop skills beneficial to administrators, teachers, and students will be offered. These sessions will begin with a two-day session, with a follow-up session scheduled after participants have had time in their schools to implement learning.
